Festival Makeup Hack #1: Pack Light

Decisions, decisions, packing light never seems to be easy for us gyals, however it’s all about packing smart.

What I mean is, you want to pack festival beauty products that can be used on both hair and makeup.

Dual Purpose Items

Rather than lugging around skincare products alongside your festival makeup, look for multi functional products.

Got2b Glue is a popular hair product however you can use it for a number of things like

  • Sleek hair updos
  • Feathered brows
  • Euphoria styled edges

bb creams as they’re a mixture between a moisturiser, a primer and a foundation and ohh and if you find one with an SPF over 30 then you're winning really.

Coconut oil can not only be used in your campfire cooking but can be used as an excellent makeup remover and moisturiser.

Go Travel Sized

Travel sized versions of your festival makeup are essential, as it saves a lot of room, letting you travel light.

Think eco and collect small re-fillable plastic containers throughout the year so you can easily decant the contents of your bigger bottles into smaller bottles at no extra cost.

Festival Makeup Hack #2: Waterproof Makeup Wins

So you've beat your face to the gods, everything is ten out of ten, but what’s the point in putting in all of that effort if it’s all going to slowly make its way down your face come 8pm?

To swerve the boogie-induced sweat and the drink spills, keep your festival makeup in place by using waterproof makeup. Liquid liners, mascara and lip stains that are waterproof can help with festival make-up longevity. There are even waterproof concealers out there…I know, I know. Thank me later.

We Can't Live Without...

Our must have makeup item that's our festival and party staple is the Rimmel stay matte liquid lipstick.

These babies last all day with no cracking, the colours are gorgeous and the price won't break the bank either.

Festival Makeup Hack #3: Prime & Set

When you think of festival makeup, you think of bright, poppy, colourful eyeshadow that dominates the scene.

But when it comes to making that bright pink, yellow, or whatever colour that tickles your fancy pop, you need a good eyelid primer. Not only does it make the colour more vibrant, your eyeshadow won’t budge whatsoever.

Top tip! When it comes to primers double check that it matches your foundation or bb cream.

If it’s water based, your primer should be too. The same goes for oil based foundations and primers.

Setting your festival makeup is a must, summer festivals can take a toll on your makeup, rather than looking like you're a melted mess, it's best to take extra precautions beforehand.

Having a good setting spray is great but as we’re packing light you can set your makeup with hairspray. It might not be the best if you have any respiratory problems, but your festival makeup will not shift, not one little bit.

Festival Makeup Hack #4: Flower Child

Boho chic is always a popular trend amongst festival goers and using dried pressed flowers is a great and playful way to add some fun to a boho inspired festival look.

Dried pressed flowers are easy to make and they’re biodegradable making it a better option, than using your average glitter.

The best way to apply these florals is with eyelash glue, you can get super creative and place them in certain areas on your face, your eyelids or even your neck.

Glueing real flowers around the eyes and pairing it with colourful eyeshadow and graphic liner gives gorgeous results. It's really intricate and looks like mini beauty bouquets. You’ll have that soft girl aesthetic down to a T.

Festival Makeup Hack #5: Mess Free Glitter Application

Whether you're heading to Coachella, Glastonbury, wireless or you just plan on holding a festival dance party in your back garden, glitter is the must-have festival beauty accessory that takes the best highlighter to new heights.

But glitter isn't biodegradable you say? Well did you know you can opt for eco glitter instead. EcoStardust is one of our fave brands, it’s an eco-conscious company selling biodegradable glitter made from a plant cellulose derived from Eucalyptus Trees. Just know that you’ll be good for ‘leaving with no trace’.

Loose pigments are a recipe for festival tent-floor disaster, so getting the application right is key.

  • Apply your adhesive first
  • let it get tacky
  • dab the glitter on top with a brush

A festival makeup hack that we’ve seen recently is using hair gel as an adhesive to stick glitter on. Keep it simple and try to use 1-2 colours, start with the bright colour in the centre and always blend out with a lighter tone, like silver or iridescent.

Face jewels and diamantes are an option if you're unsure how to mix and match. Not only are they reusable, the colour combination and where to apply is already laid out in the pack for you, so you can just stick it on with lash glue and go.

Festival Makeup Hack #6: Take Off

The easiest way to make sure your glitter is removable is to choose an adhesive that's water soluble. Most hair gels are water based so it won't be hard to take off. We suggest using baby oil or coconut oil to help budge any leftover bits.

A quick tip for removing even the most stubborn of glitter residue is to use a little bit of sticky tape. Just press the sticky side gently onto the skin to remove every tiny sparkle.

It's probably not the greatest for your skin, but if you'd rather not show up to your Monday morning meeting looking like a disco ball, it can be a lifesaver.
